Agricultural Diversification

As identified by the 19 Listening Sessions held across Nevada in fall of 2003, the Agriculture Diversification Committee's Mission in 2007 is to:

• Support and promote activities that will educate and stimulate interest in agricultural activities throughout Nevada:
• Support and promote Nevada Grown initiatives
• Support and promote the Farmer's Market initiatives
• Support and promote Nevada Department of Agriculture initiatives
• Support and promote USDA Rural Development initiatives
• Establish  an  Annual  Rural  Summit  that  includes events  and  activities  related   to  agriculturalproducers and also includes Nevada Governor's Awards to recognize the outstanding efforts of individuals and organizations in agriculture
• Work with all Native American Tribes in Nevada.

Projects in 2006 included:

• First Nevada Grown connections Conference on March 7-8, 2006
• Completion of the work scoping of Phase One
• A report from the Conference entitled "Nevada Supporting Nevada Market Initiatives" was compiled and submitted to the USDA by Dr. Kynda Curtis
• The FSMIP Grant awarded to the NRDC was the first of its kind awarded in Nevada
• Rural Ag Summit in Fallon, NV, December 1-2, 2005 featuring nationally known speakers, workshops, exhibitions and tours of agricultural operations
