About Us

The   Nevada   Rural   Development Council (NRDC) is a  501(c)(3)non-profit organization whose mission is to develop and expand collaborative alliances among local, regional, state, and federal efforts; to advocate for and enhance.Nevada's human, economic, and natural resources; and to assist rural communities in achievement of locally determined objectives.The NRDC will help 

  • Promote self-determination
  • Foster cultural values within the community; and
  • Strengthen rural communities through action, advocacy and leadership development

The NRDC is an important communication link to facilitate and strengthen working collaborative relationships among private, local, state, tribal, and federal agencies, with a focus on rural issues. The NRDC advocates policies and practices that foster development as defined by local rural interests. The Council serves as a proactive catalyst, working to remove barriers to rural development and to solve problems impeding development in rural Nevada.

Objectives

  • The NRDC shall provide leadership in making strategic use of resources to achieve short term and long-term rural goals
  • The NRDC shall serve as a focal point for identifying opportunities for rural development.
  • Council members will work to identify interdepartmental and intergovernmental barriers to implementing rural strategies and resolving those within its capability.
  • Further, as relevant issues develop, or are uncovered, the  NRDC will incorporate them into ongoing efforts.
  • Specific objectives include, but are not limited to the following:
    • Respond to and help identify and highlight rural needs and issues by building collaborative partnerships and coordinating resources available to address them.
    • In cooperation with the for-profit and non-profit sectors, local government, tribal government, state and federal agencies, and individual citizens, shall facilitate the identification, development and implementation of strategies to achieve long-term rural development which enhances communities’ human, economic, and natural resources.
    • Help strengthen the capacity of individuals, agencies, organizations, and communities to effectively address rural issues and to implement innovative and effective solutions.
    • Serve as a forum for promoting better relations, networking, and active collaboration among the for-profit and non-profit sectors, local governments, tribal government, state and federal agencies, and other interested organizations and individuals.
    • Provide and coordinate leadership, education, information, and technical assistance to individuals, agencies, organizations, and communities that are interested in implementing policy initiatives and successful strategies to address rural issues.
